HOME LEARNING:

Wednesday 17th September 2025 -

As school is closed, here are three activities to complete and share when we return.

English: On Friday, we started our new class novel called ‘Race to the Frozen North’. Use the picture of an Arctic explorer to write descriptive sentences for your own frozen journey. The guide below will help you know how to use adjectives, adverbials and conjunctions effectively.

Maths: Please continue to improve your understanding of numbers to 1,000,000 with the more and less than activity below.

History: Over this half term, we are learning all about Ancient Greece and will be having an Ancient Greece day next Wednesday. To prepare for this, we would love you to research what people wore in Ancient Greece and create something for your costume. You could make a sword, shield, headband/crown, bracelet or anything else that you can think of. Below is a picture to give you some ideas of what you could create. We cannot wait to see your costumes next week!

Tuesday 16th September 2025 -

As school is closed, here are two activities to complete and share when we return.

English: We have been learning all about inspirational figures from history in our 'Young, Gifted and Black' historical book by Jamia Wilson. Choose somebody we have not yet learned about from the 'Hall of Fame' below, research about this person and create a fact file all about them and their achievements. Remember to include: capital letters, full stops, commas, fronted adverbials, adjectives and subordinate clauses to explain and add detail.

Maths: We have been learning all about numbers to 1,000,000. Improve your skills of reading, writing and comparing numbers with the questions shared below.

PE DAYS:
Monday and Thursday.
Please bring your PE kit on these days and make sure that earrings are not worn on this day. Full PE kits consists of a white t-shirt, black/dark blue shorts or leggings and black pumps or trainers.

READING:

Please bring your reading book to school every day so we can read with you.
Please read a few pages at home every day and ask an adult to sign your reading record.

HOMEWORK:

We will be sending two homework books out every Friday. There will be an English activity in the purple book and a Maths activity in the family maths book. Please have it completed ready for the following Tuesday at the latest.

FIVE READS:

Each half term, each year group has 5 new picture books to read daily during story time. These picture books are age appropriate and often link to the current learning for each year group. This ensures the children are exposed to a wide range of genres and authors across the year and develop confidence in knowing a variety of stories in greater depth. These ‘5 reads’ books are further celebrated in a half termly assembly to share the cohort’s favourite book of the half term and to receive their new ‘5 reads’.

These are our 5 reads for Autumn 1:

CURRICULUM OVERVIEW

SPELLINGS

This year, we are trialling a new, mastery approach to spelling. Each week, we will explore a new spelling pattern and spend time practising and applying it in our written work. Below, there is a full list of spellings for each week. The children will choose up to 6 spellings that they find trickiest from the list to focus on.
